Garment Instructions for Natural and Sustainable Fabrics Washing Guide by Cherry Bobbins

Natural and sustainable fabrics are those wardrobe wins, they're soft, breathable, gentle on the planet and made to last longer. But all fabrics need a little TLC to stay beautiful wear after wear.

Whether you've just added a new favourite to your collection or want to give your staples the long life they deserve, here’s everything you need to know about caring for your pieces, the conscious way.

1. Wash it gently, wash it cool

Hot water can be harsh on natural fibres and the environment. Washing in cold water (30°C or below) is not only gentler on your clothes, but it also saves energy, a win-win for your wardrobe and the planet.

Pair it with a mild, eco-friendly detergent and avoid products with bleach or strong chemicals, which can wear down fabric and impact water systems. Additionally, wash with similar colours to prevent colour transfer from other garments.

2. Air dry for the win

Your tumble dryer may be convenient, but air drying in the shade is your clothing's best friend. Hanging your garments out to dry (not in direct sunlight), helps them keep their shape, reduces shrinkage and lowers your energy use.

3. Spot clean when you can

A little stain? Don’t throw the whole piece in the wash just yet. Try spot-cleaning with a mild soap or a natural stain remover. This not only extends the time between washes but also helps your garment stay vibrant and intact.

4. Wash less, wear more

Natural and sustainable fabrics are durable, but frequent washing can still cause fading and fabric fatigue over time. The less you wash, the longer your clothes last. If it’s not dirty, air it out and wear it again, guilt-free.

5. Store smart

Once clean and dry, fold or hang your cotton garments neatly and store them in a cool, dry place. Keep your clothes out of direct sunlight to prevent fading.

A little care goes a long way

Taking care of your garments doesn’t just keep it looking and feeling great, it’s also part of a bigger picture. The more you extend the life of your clothing, the less waste we collectively create.

So love your clothes like they love you, simply, sustainably and with intention.
